Maybe I’m ahead of myself

Things are finally starting to pick up at work. I’ve gotten a request from some English teachers to help them out for a whole week. This is at the school where nobody knows my name. OK, that’s not true. Two people know my name. Anyway, it’s encouraging because I’ve been trying to get people to ask for help all year to no avail. I’m glad that I finally have something to do at this school. My other school, I help out at a lot. The thing is, I’m tired of doing stuff with word and pubisher. Movie Maker is cool, but it takes a lot of time, and teachers don’t always want to take that time. I feel like for as much as this district has, they’re behind the times in so many ways technologically.
Is it that progressive of a notion to allow kids to have email addresses? Is it so progressive that I want to see students blogging? Why is it that we still have teachers who don’t know how to turn a computer on, or who know how to check the patch cable to see if it’s unplugged when they can’t log in?
There are times I wish I was a principal at a brand new school and could hire whoever I wanted. I’d hire the best and the brightest, and we’d set a vision for how to educate our students, and we’d use technology every day. We’d be progressive and set our own rules. We’d be a model for the rest of the district. Do you think it will ever happen?
No way. I don’t want to be a principal…ever. I wouldn’t mind being a tech director because I’ve done that, and enjoyed it, but I think it would have to be in a small district, where I could still be in touch with the teachers and students every day.
I guess I still have the spark, but I just need to find an outlet for it.
